Tape
My process did not evolve that much until after the Bristol Channel tour when I started using tape, 1/4inch analogue tape in my set-up. I made recordings during the tour which were used on some tracks and afterwards I liked to use tape live in conjunction with envelope followers. These modules track a sound, and generate/produce a CV trigger OR CV pitch signal and you can drive synths with these.
I played at the Cubes Radiophonic weekender that Mat put together and below are some photos of that show.
I use engineering ‘surface gauges’ to allow tape tension on long loops. I used a mono Nagra and a Tandberg. The Tandberg has a really good mech which allows (in a certain mode) the freeplay of the tape across the heads. The Nagra is of course a superb field recording unit.
