La Haine

Mathieu Kassovitz/ 1995 / Fr / Vincent Cassel, Hubert Kounde, Said Taghmaoui La Haine, 'hate', recounts the day after rioting in a working class suburb of Paris. Vinz, Hubert and Said are three friends from different ethnic backgrounds who have been involved in the rioting. Vinz has found a pistol, lost by a policeman the night before, he's desparate to use it. They cross the fractured lines og high rise blocks and shopping malls with the slogan 'Nique la Police'(fuck the police) reverberating around them. A film that shook French bourgeois society and won Best Director at Cannes that year. An honest insight into people on the edge of society, excluded, trying to find personal and collective unity.
